Personal - How can I relate this concept to my personal experience? Application - How am I expected to use or apply the concept? Other Concepts Automaticity - A Process so highly practiced that it occurs without a conscious effort Overlearning - Continuing the study beyond just knowing information to where it can be recalled quickly and easily

I think we like to use different types of studying strategies based on our perception of pressure around us. If an expectation is received, regardless if the expectation was given, then the pressure to satisfy that expectation occurs and distracts him/her during the process of trying to focus and study.

One thing that doesn't make sense to me. They all had an intent to learn otherwise they wouldn't have participated, they just didn't have an intent to complete a test, which didn't make much of a difference whether or not they knew they were being tested or not. That would depend on the population being tested as well as what the incentive is to score high on the test "The Reward". He kept saying "Intent to learn made no difference". Unless the incidental groups were not told which level of processing to perform and simply did it on their own? I don't think that's what happened.

So, I'm confused. I have subtitles on, and the text in the video says, "Keep ultimate goal of learning in mind" and yet the subtitles, which havent caught up to the video yet, which is still captioning the last thing he said, is, "if you aren't prepared and can't contribute, don't come" (in reference to group study). Is this or is this not a massive contradiction? This guy seems very black and white on things.

While Ross may be more articulate in some respects, I have to say that overall I find myself agreeing with Haarsma more. In particular, Ross wholeheartedly accepts the idea of a miraculous cause of life emerging. To me, this is a very difficult position to justify. If we are to believe that God created a universe with an *internally consistent logic* then why are we to believe that same creation is insufficient to produce life as we know it? God can create a universe, with stars, planets, solar systems and galaxies… but He couldn’t quite figure out how to get life without having to stick his hands in from the outside and tinker with His creation. I don’t buy it. I find Haarsma’s pragmatism in this regard very refreshing. Ross is a master at making a god-of-the-gaps argument seem reasonable and rational.

Biblical Hebrew a small vocabulary than English. In biblical Hebrew, there is no word for universe. Instead, the Hebrew phrase that is translated “the heavens and the earth” is used to refer to the universe-the entirety of physical reality. The phrase is used thirteen times in the Old Testament, always referring to all matter, energy, space, and time the universe. We now know that event was 13.787 ±0.020 billion years. This has been checked, proven and measured with many tools and they all agree. It is not just space that came to be 13.787 billion years ago, but time also. The universe is finite and expanding. Just as the Bible stated thousands of years ago. To deny the existence of a Creator is an error.

@@djsarg7451 Because it requires God to “reach in” and tinker with creation. A universe created by God should logically be self sufficient to evolve within the confines of that creation. To simply say, “well, this cell is too complex to have formed through natural processes” is to say that God created a physical reality that is incapable of evolving naturally. I don’t believe that to be true *at all*.

I would contend that science did not exist until about 1500. Scientific research is experimental research. Science is simply a method and nothing else. It is a method that is always changing. Science proves nothing. Science is useless without math and statistics. Americans and Europeans are Greek thinkers and think in ideas and other parts of the world think in concrete terms. Due to the conservation of momentum I would contend that the length of time of the day would be different before and after the water fell.

I can really see how high school builds poor metacognition, they expect you to pick up the information that the textbook is trying to get you to look at, and quickly. The best way to do this is do the remember for the test and completely forget it afterwards, because being honest most of what you learn in high school does not translate into day to day life. In college, you are actually supposed to gain that deeper understanding of learning because you are going to use it in the career your major falls under (if you actually go into the career field you major in).

Question: I bombed a quiz I studied for. I have a hard time with the specific topic with reading and re-reading the sentences in the chapter trying to focus and better understand. I went to my professor asking for resources to help me better understand the material, like youtube videos, (I really enjoy watching videos that are engaging then I can go back and read the chapter and familiarize myself with the words). My professor shot me down saying that "visual learning doesn't exist and there's no real evidence backing that it works." None of these videos identify that, yet she recommended we watching this video series. I would love to know input on using videos as visual learning aids, more-so a tool in the study process but not being the sole form of studying. I felt embarrassed, defeated, and like I cannot trust to approach this professor again to be vulnerable about asking for help. What should I do for the future?

I like both of these scientists. They have a cordiality and openness that is refreshing. Dr. Haarsma is well-educated and conveys a sense of biological aspects. But, clearly Dr. Ross has the strongest grasp and broader knowledge well thought out, with a strong sense of relying on evidence. I find him the most convincing and frankly the most encouraging when conveying science and Biblical interaction.
